The Day of the Dead is still a few months away, but adidas’ plans for the holiday are already starting to take shape.

The adidas Samba “Día de Muertos” will release in two colorways in late September that will add some holiday flair. Both versions feature contrasting blanket stitching on the T-toe and mustache, the eyestays are broken up into bone-shaped pieces, and colorful floral embroidery is applied to the top panel. A gum-cup sole also ties the two styles together

The black and white versions, each accentuate a single color, and are further differentiated by the application of sugar skulls, or “calaveras.” The black model places a top-hatted skull on the tongue label and insole, while the white model opts for a floral crown. The insole pattern is then colored with flowers for an extra pop of flair.

In addition to the Sambas, adidas will also release two CrazyChaos 2000 colorways that receive a similar treatment with some added pops of color on the outside.

Every year, adidas celebrates the Day of the Dead with a series of sneakers that are tailored to the holiday in new ways. Last year, the Samba debuted alongside the Gazelle and Campus, which came in a trio of green, yellow, and orange, respectively. The trims are more minimal, with tonal stitching patterns added around the collar and eyestays.

There’s no shortage of options in the sneaker space for 2023, either, including the Air Jordan 1 Zoom Cmft 2; Nike Air Max 1, Blazer, and Dunk Low; and Converse Chuck ’70s.

The adidas Samba “Day of the Dead” sneaker will release on September 27, a little over a month before the holiday. Pricing is set at $120.
